Lakin s Perez A Winner for KSULAKIN—Chris Perez ofLakin — plagued by problemsthroughout his collegiatetrack and field career — isstarting to “come on.”The former Lakin Highdistance ace is now a juniortrackmen at Kansas StateUniversity. He’s the son of the*Valentine Perezes of Lakin. and is a physical education major at KSU.Saturday at Austin. Tex., KSU edged University of Texas 69-66 in an outdoor dual meet. Perez was among the KSU leaders.The former Lakin star won the one-mile run at Austin, clocked in 4 minutes, 12.1 seconds. His teammate,Schemmel. was a step behind in 4:12.3.In the two-mile run, Perez placed third. KSU runners finished 1-2-3 in that gruelling event, just a fraction of a second apart.Schemmel won the race in 9 minutes, 12.5 seconds. Settle was second in 9:12.6 . Perez took third in 9:12.9 Perez won 12 individual state high school championships for Lakin High,Perez.. .back in formbelieved to be a Kansas record. Included was an anchor leg on Lakin’s winning medley relay foursome as aseniorHe v as red-shirted by KSU one season in track, and is now a junior in eligibility. Perezhad a 4:11 clocking for the mile indoors this winter.
