Six Teams Opent*Cage TourneyCHICAGO, —Six teams participate tonight in the opening round of the eighth annual world’s championship basketball tourna-ment,Individual interest will be centered around three stars' of last year's service and collegiate basketball teams—George Mikan, De-Paul, Arnold Risen, Ohio State, ar.d Mel Riebe, Great Lakes.Riebe, who recently joined the Cleveland Allmens after his release from the navy will be the first to go into action as the All mens play the Anderson, Ind., Chiefs in the opener.Mikan, wbi last week signed a five year contract far $60,0000 with the American Gears, makes his third professional start against the Pittsburgh Raiders. Mikan scored 37 points in 50 minutes of playing time in his first two. games with the Gears.Risen, outstanding center with Ohio State until he was declared ineligible early this year, will go into action in the nightcap when the Indianapolis Kautskyg battle the Down Chemical team from Midland, Mich.Other first round games in the meet will be played Wednesday and Friday nights,. •ROYALS WHIP SKINSSHEBOYGAN, —The Rochester Royals won the National basketball league' championship during the weekend by defeating the She-’ boyg^n Redskins, 66 to *48. The Reddiuns previously had lost two games at Rochester.At halftime, the Royals had a 28 to 27 edge over Sheboygan.
