Globetrotters Meet City Of David Quintet TonightOne of the best independent cageattractions of the season will bepresented this evening at the St.Joseph high school gym when JesseOwens and his Harlem Globetrotters meet the traveling City of David basketball team.The game is sponsored by the Band Boosters club of the St. Joseph Catholic high school. Proceeds from the game will go to purchase uniforms for the band.The feature attraction will go onat 9 p. m. following a preliminary game between, two local teams at. 7:30 p. m.Both the Harlem Globetrotters, who are one of the outstanding colored teams in the nation, and the City of David quintets are crowd pleasers, capable of mixing high class basketball with exhibition of clean, humorous and laugh-provoking stunts of showmanship.The Globetrotters, in their 19th season of play, have amassed the amazing total of 2,558 victories while losing only 209 the last 18 years. They average over six feet in height and are the pick of the nation's outstanding colored players, the list including Bernie Price, Zack Clayton, Roscoe “Duke’' Cumberland. Lorenzo “Piper Davis, Ducky Moore and Silas Phelps. Inman Jackson, great center and top-ball handler of basketball is still with he team for his sixteenth season, ictmg in an advisory capacity and ccasional utility man.The Globetrotters won the world professional tournament staged athe Chicago Stadium in 1940, and, iff that triumph, qualified to meet he nation's College All-Stars at the stadium in November of that year efore 22.000 thrilled spectators. In 943 and 1944 the Globetrotters were nvited to the Invitational Inter-lational Cup tournament at Mexico Jitv, and each time walked off with he championship in * field stud-AL PRICEded with the best teams of Latin-Amertca.Bob Haliisey and Ted Hanauer are the regular forward starters fo* the City of David traveling team, Haliisey, a former Holy cross mam and one of the best ball handler* in basketball, is in his sixth year with the bearded cagers. Hanaue? was an all-state plyaer in hi* high school days in Indiana. He i« fast and shifty and specializes in long shots.Bob Karstens, sLc foot three Inch center, hails from Davenport, Iowa where he starred in his high school days. Along with his juggling acfc he is an ace shotmaker.Ralph Miller is a former University of Toledo star. Past and a good scorer, Guard Miller is also a native of Indiana.
