Jays victim of Western KentuckyWest Virginia defeats ToledoCompilf-4 from AP tlspatrhN.A couple of unknowns upset the last two favorites and advanced to the finals of the Metropolitan invitational basketball tournament Monday night at New York's Madison Square Garden.Western Kentucky State eliminated Creighton U., 49 to 36, and West Virginia ousted Toledo, 51 to 39.The Kentuckians, chalking up their 15th straight victory, were seeded seventh and West Virginia last among the eight teams thatstarted play last Tuesday.West Virginia, conqueror of Long Island’s defending champions in the first round, gave a great exhibition of shooting and ball handling in downing the favored Ohioans and qualifying for Wednesday’s finals.Creighton Faster.Creighton, co-champions of the Missouri Valley, stayed in the ball game until the last ten minutes when the Hilltoppers pulled away with Howard and Dero Downing joining lanky Oran McKinney and Sub Kay Blevins in the last scoring drive. Blevins, whc paced the Kentuckians to their first round triumph, and McKinney tied for offensive honors with 16 points each.With Blevins and McKinney hitting, Western Kentucky pulled into a 13-9 lead at the six minute mark and widened its advantage to 28-16 with five minutes to play in the half.
