After weeks of spring-like weather, skies clouded up yesterday, with the forecast giving the Southland a 50-50 chance for showers.^ • Someone else has their fingers crossed. The Corona High Panthers are scheduled to face South Torrance at 11 a.m. in the tournament; And they’d like to come up with their first win of the season. Coach* Burr Attebery’s nine has suffered six consecutive setbacks. The latest one was a 10-2 lossf at West Covina Thursday.'Hernandez Hurls Attebery decided to go with Frank Hernandez on the mound this morning. Hernandez has dropped a pair of starts thus far.Win or lose, the Panthers;,’will have yet another game toda^ft If they win the morning encoiirfter, the Panthers will meet the winner of the Artesia-Hemet first round clash. Should Corona lose, ittpp-pibnent. will be the loser of the aforeffientioned game in the consolation bracket.The .Panthers’ second tilt will come at 3 o’clock this afternoon. Both their games will be played on Puente High School fields,. Knabe Nominated Hurling for Corona in' the second game will be Wayne Knabe. Knabe usually a third baseman, has yet to start on the hill for the Panthers this season, but he’s beeneffective in relief stints.Hernandez, Knabe, catcher Ralph Appier and second baseman Dickie Del Castillo have been the most consistant hitters in tire ^Corona offense which hasn’t been able to get rolling this year. Del Castillo had a five-game batting streak ended at West Covina._ Though • he started out with hits including a home run in the first game of the year, center fielder Remi Chagnon has been blanked since that time. However, he’s been victimized by a couple of~ brilliant fielding plays by the opposition and could break loose any time.. Games continue tomorrow.
