DON JULIO JUNIOR HIGH SCHOOLAwards night at Don JulioDon Julio Junior High School held the semi-annual awards night on Feb. 21. The night started out with the presentation of awards for Honor Roll, Honor Certificate and Scholar Letter. Seventh grade class sponsors, R^genia Jones and Wayne Sheppard, gave the seventh graders their Honor Roll awards.The eighth grade class sponsors, Carolyn Torkelson and Ernie Miller, gave the eight grade students their Honor Roll awards. The ninth grade representative, Ted Sanders, handed out the ninth grade Honor Roll awards. Arlene Levinson made the presentations for Honor Certificate and Scholar Letter.Larry Tyrell, director of the pep band, presented those awards. The AV award was given out by Larry Khppel and both fall and spring student council awards were given out by Ernie Miller. Miller also presented awards for song and yell leaders for their participation. Jim Stephens, coach of the boys varsity basketball team gave awards for the participants of both the varsity and junior vansty teams.The most valuable player awards were presented to Jon Jordan on the varsity team and Derrick Davis for the junior varsity team. The Chess Club was also presented awards by sponsor Gerald Soto. The Chess Club holds number one ranking in the Grant District.By Shiralee AinaThe Don Julio Journalism class went on a trip to the Sacramento Bee Newspaper as guests of the Campos Verdes Junior High SchoolJournalism class. When the busarrived at the Sacramento Bee headquarters they discovered they were 20 minutes early so they went on a 20 minute tour of downtown Sacramento. The tour lasted for an hour and was very interesting.On Feb. 28 our girls basketball team will play the Foothill Falcons at Don Julio.The members of the varsity and junior varsity teams are Latina Bailey, Doreen Banks, TheresaBeecham, Marsha Berry, Danielle Blue, Minnie Dixon, Artavia Edwards, Michelle Francis and Crystal Howard.Also Kathy Jackson, Jackie Jennings. Michelle McCain, Trina McDuffie, Theresa Rainge, Ginger Williams, Lynn Abess, Lon Andrews, Tom Bib, Phyllis Blanton, Yvette Boggs, Xina Bolden, Kathy Hood and Monica Jordan.Also Jerilyn Murphy, Linda Oldham, Lorna Rea, Janice Smith, Cheri Story, Anne Toole, and Marthea Turner.Managers and statisticians are Jon Jordan, Harold Ashe, David Whitsett, Tony Gamble, Troy Graves, Sandi Hamilton, Kim Woods, Renee Hackett, Tammy Massey, Shelly Murray, Alicia Williams.
