BEAN L06E$ ON A FOUL.About 1500 disappointed sports left j the Salt Lake Athletic club last night : after witnessing twelve rounds of a scheduled twenty-round contest between Jack Christy and Willard Bean, in which Christy was awarded the contest in the twelfth round over Bean because of a technical foul in the breast while in a clinch. The crowd wished to see a knockout and of course was not pleased with the result. The first murmur of dissatisfaction arose when Referee Bennett announced that if both men were on their feet at the end of | twenty rounds it would be called a draw, the people contending that the fight ought to be given to the one who j did the most fighting. Bean had the I l«*st of the battle nearly all the way through. At one time both men were all but knocked out and staggered ’ around the ring swinging with left and right in all directions. In the last round Christy was nearly out and Beau had him at his mercy, and why he should deliberately foul him when (Tiristy was powerless to do any damage cannot be accounted for by the “wise ones.** Four times in the last round Bean walked up to Christy and hit him square on the jaw while the latter was unable to block the blows. The foul which Bean was charged with committing apparently did no harm toChristy.The largest crowd of the season was present. A delegation of 175 people from Provo came up on a special to back Bean, the party being chaperoned by City Marshal Frank Tucker, Alldepartments of the city were well represented.
