They’re “shoulda” pitchers. Mr. Dizzy Dean “shoulda been the best pitcher in the league but his record shows 20 won and 18 lest. Mr. James O. “Tex” Car-letoii won 17 and lost 11. Mr. “Lefty” Hallahan won 16 and lost 12.Mr. James I. Mooney, the leflt hander, looked like the best pitcher in camp last spring. After that he looked like the worst in America. Bill Walker, also left handed, couldn’t seem to get them out. Jesse Haines, of course, has become a “spot” pitcher by this time.Mitchell, former Assistant Chief of the Air Corps and war flier, is seen as most likely choice to head the reorganized air f orca.In addition to Carleton, Hallahan, Dean, Mooney and Walker, the 1933 outfit now has Paul Dean, brother of Diz; Burleigh Grimes, doing a Ponce De Leon at Hot Springs; Flint Rhem, holding out for reasons that undoubtedly seem lucid and logical to Flint Rhem; Ed Greer, Clarence Heise, Bob Klinger and Him Winford.Bill De Lancey and Mike Gonzales, juvenile and veteran respectively, will be the second and third catchers behind Virgil Davis, obtained from the Phillies in the Wilson deal. De Lancey and Gonzales were with Columbus.So were Burgess Whitehead, Ben Borgmann, ranking basketball player; and Jack Rothrock all three are highly esteemed in this camp.They have acquired one of the two best hitters in the league, Davis, .348. to catch ninety per cent of their games.
