Matsko*MatBx NATHAN C0D1SP0TIEd Matsko and Rick Lepley of Jenner-Boswell both took therunner-up position in the Statewrestling championships held Saturday at Recreation Hall on the campus of Penn State Uni-versity at State College.Matsko defeated .lav Mc-Ginley of Wyoming Valley Westin the semi-finals to gain his second shot at the 95 pound stale championship. In that semi-final bout Matsko jumped off to a commanding lead scoring the take down and a quick near fall early in the first period McGinley came back with a reversal near the end of the periodMatsko rode McGinley the entire second period. McGinleycame back to ride Matsko the entire third period and scored a perdicanient to gam two points. An additional point was awarded Matsko at the end of the bout for a time advantagegiving him the victory by a6 4 margin.Easy TimeIr. the other 95 pound semifinal Tom Teagarden of Mc-Guffex had a very easy tunedefeating Ben Weinstein ofCheltenham 12-0. gaining his 24th consecutive victorj of the season. Teagarden is a fixe time Junior Olympic champion and a two time WPIAL junior high champion. Going into the state championship bout with Matsko he had onlx four points scored against him this season.Teagarden denied Matsko the state title in a very impressive fxibition gaining the victory 62 He scored the takedown and followed it with a predica inent to gain a 4 0 lead in the first period. Many fans questioned the referee s decision in awarding the predicament rather than just calling it a roll-thru and awarding no points.Matsko scored the only points he was to get with a reversalin the second period. This was only the third time Teagarden gave any points in 25 boutsthis season Teagarden wasof the second period and rode from the top position the entire third period. There was no time advantage and Teagarden took the state championship 6-2.Lepley Gains FinalsRick Lepley gained his slot in the state finals by defeating Mike Capobionco of Easton 4-2. After an uneventfull first period Lepley, working from the top position scored a predicament to take a 2-0 lead at the endof two periods.Starting from the bottom position in the third period Lepley easily reversed Capobianco to take a 4-0 lead. After a shorttime the agressive Easton wrestler was able to escape from Lepley to gain his first point. Later in the period Capobianco was awarded aqother point when Lepley was called for stalling.George Myers of Dallastown, that school's first wrestler evertc make it info the state tour-Inament, easily defeated Dave Batista of Canon-McMillan 12-3 gaining the other finals berth in the 145 pound weight classLepley lost the championshipto Myers in a hard fought bout that was close to very near the end. Lepley, in an attempt to cpme from behind and gain the victory was forced to make a move. Unfortunately Myers was able to counter the move and gain a reversal that putthe bout out of reach with only a little time remaining. The final score showed Myers ahead by a 10-6 margin.Andrews UpsetJohnstown’s Allen Andrew’s also had to settle for a runner-up 112 pound position when he was surprised by Easton’s Carl Lutes with a fall after 1:20 of the first period.Rich Panella of New Castle (formerly from Listie) won the 103 pound state title defeating Dan Gallaher of Phillipsburg-1AnPI AA MAT FINALISTS — Jenner-Boswell'*1 left 95-pound wrestler, and Rick Lepley, grappler, both reached the finals of the 1969 wrestling championships for coach Marshall Bears. Neither wrestler had tasted defeat this fore bowing out after both had given lionhearted effortsin the state finals.
