Benfield, Kent Martin and Neal Hawkins looked as impressive as the varsity at times. The Bluehawks started the second quarter just like they ended the first quarter as they increased their lead to 28-13 for the bewildered Parsons team could score. The Hawks maintained this lead throughout the second period as it was obvious to everyone in the West Virginia University Fieldhouse that the scrappy Raleigh County cagers were the superior team on the floor. With Douglas using a total of ten players in the first half and all of the scoring Sophia went to the dressing room carrying a very comfortable 45-26 lead.Aware of what had happened to Ceredo Kenova in the third period of its game with War-wood the veteran Sophia coach ordered his team to come out running in the secon! half and that it did as it scored eight quick points to up its lead to53-28 with 6:21 left in the thirdperiod. Although Parsons cut the lead to 53-36 it was all oyer but the shouting. The Blue Hawks continued to pour it on in the fourth quarter as Douglas gave every boy on his squad the opportunity to be able to say that he had played in a state tournament game.Stone, following his fine performance over Mullens in the Regional finals when he canned 30 points, got 13 of his game high 27 points in the fourth period when he was 6-6 from the floor.Coach Douglas’ star performer hauled down 15 rebounds as heteamed with Aaron Jones tocontrol the boards. Although heonly scored four points Jones picked off rebounds.Lovell* who had several steals and a total of five assists, was the only other Blue Hawk in double figures as he scored 14 points.
