Kofa wrestlers nab top awardScott Kottenbrook and Miguel Villarreal finished in a tie for the Most Valuable Wrestler Award at the Kofa High School wrestling banquet Monday night in the KHS cafeteria. Voting for this particular award was conducted by the wrestlers themselves.In other awards, Craig Labistre was selected as the Most Improved grappler for the 1978-79 season, Julio Gasca received the Coaches Hustle Award for displaying the most desire.Villarreal was named winner of the Winners Club Award on the strength of his 21-7-1 dual meet mark. Jeff Headington, 8-0 beforeYumans capturesuffering a liver ailment that ended his season, was the honorary winner.Jack Fa/ won an award for most pins during the season, and Jim Kasley and Scott Wilson, both seniors, were selected as co-captains.Kofa had 11 wrestlers who were competing on the varsity level for the first time ever.For the junior varsity, Kuben Natal won the Outstanding Wrestler Award for the Kings, while Paul Hendrichs was selected as Most Improved, and Jeff Foster won an award for most pins.On the freshmen level, the Most Valuable Wrestler Award ended in a four-way tie between Gary Headington, Todd Kottenbrook, Scott Chism and Nico Arias. 'I' h e Most Valuable Wrestler Award went to Kicky Green, while Headington won an award for recording the most pins.
