A great deal of credit is due these girls who receive only two weeks instruction at the Summer Skating School in Winnipeg. They then undertookto show the classes here whatthey have learned. We have a fine group of young skaters coming up, and we hope that by next year we will be able to put on a separate night of skating.The Monitors then demonstrated the different figures used in ‘free skating’ such as spiral, salchow, loop, broken leg spin, and several others. Some of these are quite difficult, and when you canmake them look easy, when vou are good.thatisTwo group numbers were formed, “Animal Antics”“Spice On Ice.per-andIfHighlight of the afternoon was the presentation of the Skating Trophies. These were presented to the girls who made the most progress in figure skating this season, regardless of the class they were in. The cups were donated by the Royal Purple Lodge, and H.R.L, Ferguson made the presentations, The girls receiving the cups were Dorothy Jean Silver, Betty Stevens, Darlene Jackson,and June and Joan Laing. The decisions were very difficult to make, and the following names are the ones who received Honorable mention, Susan Pittet, i Geraldine George, Susan Smellie, Chris Robertson, Paula Sharp, and Stella Hykaway.
