Russell Figure Skaters' VarietiesIcerrProvides Fine Entertainment For Big CrowdA most entertainingof skating were held in the Memorial rink cm Friday, March 8thwhen the Russell Figure Skaters \ watch, assisted by five members from the Brandon Club presented their annua Iskating carnival “Varieties on Ice.” The Russell Elks’ Band { was in attendance and added to the evening bylively numbers assisted by the majoretteli ^ |Mayor J. A. Burgess acted as master of ceremonies for the evening. There were close to 700 inattendance.fluorescent satin dresses and top hats, and were most pleasing toA great deal of credit goes to the instructors, Misses Sheila Cross, Valerie Davidson, and Violet Liske, and to all those who so greatly j willingly helped to make theeevning a huge success.George Laing and Jack Thom presented the instructors with giftson behalf of the Russell AthleticCouncilThere was good variety and the costumes were most colorful. One of the most effective numbers was the opneing one **Mounties on Parade.” The girls dressed in their red mountie coats did a precision drill and marched to music played bjr tht band. -The pre-schoolers stole the show as they skated and turned in their bright clown suits.The next number added a touch of comedy when twenty bunnies went through a routine, aided by a cow and a five car train. TheThe skaters taking partcow insisted on lying down on the track and brought many laughs from the audience.
