BATTLE .ALCO FOR TITLE —Here is the fast-stepping Hagerstown High basketball team, scheduled to face Allegany Friday night at Frederick in a game that will decide the Class A championship of Maryland’s District 1. The Hubs, coached by Mel Henry, one of Cumberland's all-time athletic greats, wound up the regular season with a record of i? victories in 18 games, then polished off Frederick, 44-28, last Friday to gain the right to meet Alco in the district finals, TheHubs have scored 980 points in 19 games for an average of 48.9 per contest, Their opponents have averaged ten less points per game. Members of the Hagerstown squad m left-to-right order are Fred Reel, Dave Kuhn, Neil Beer, Bill Souders, Jack Koontz, Don Springer, Jack Melzer, Leo Burke, Harry Parks, Jim Gossard, Curt Massey, A] Cutshaw and Sydney Bowman. The Hubs are defending state champions, winning over Wicomico High of Salisbury last year in the finals.
