LEBANON MEETSSECOND DEFEATICRAWFORDSVILLE CARRIES OFF STATE CHAMPIONSHIP INBASKET BALL GAME.Locals Out Played in First Half, But Made a Whirlwind Finish WhichMade Them All But Winners—Lebanon “Coach” Would Not Remain. The spirits of the Lebanon sporting contigent took a decided slump last Friday evening, when Crawfordsville carried the state pennant out from ! under their noses. Probably the largest and most enthusiastic crowd of rooters ever seen in this city was gathered at the High School gymnasium to witness this contest for the championship among Indiana high schools.Tlt;he Lebanon boys seemed to be badly scared the first few minutes of play and their work was not to its usual high standard. The visitorswere in the game from the first min-♦ute of play to the last and covered the floor with astonishing fast team work. Every one of their players held down his position and exhibited more scientific work than had ever been seen on the home floor.Lebanon’s fright was accepted by their opponents as a good opportunity to pile up a good score, and before the home boys were fully awakened to the situation the game stood 13 to 3 for Crawfordsville. Then things began to take on a different aspect, j Lebanon covered every play with excellent speed and accuracy. Their old systematic plays came back to them and they kept the ball near their goal for the rest of the game. The lead of the visitors was too much, however, to be easily overcome. Yount, the swift little forward for Crawfordsville, succeeded In making five field goals in the first half and it is no doubht, due to his work, that they won their victry. The half ended 17 to 10 in favor of Crawfordsville, Lebanon having secured two field goals at the last moment. The boys figured out some of their mistakes during the intermission and when the referee blew his whistle they sprang into action with such vim that their opponents were carried off their feet. O. Berry paid more attention to his forward this time and held the youngster down to one field goal. Darnall out played Wilson atcenter and Little made the field goals. From the rapidity with which the score on the upper side of the board ran' up it seemed for a time as if defeat was to be turned into victory. But the fats did not so decree it, for they had allowed the visitors a slight lead and which they succeeded in maintaining until the end. The final score was 25 to 22, which alone shows the effort put forth by Lebanon after being confronted in the first ten minutes of play by a score of 13 to 3.This is practically the first year l^ebanon has had a team, while Crawfordsville has held the state championship for several seasons. So the rooters should not become discouraged, for everything considered the local five did good work. Crawfordsville is so stiuated that their players have the ad vantage of college coaching and they also see all the big games that are played by the Wabash five in their town. This is a decided help for they witness good plays and make them their own. The Lebanon boys should not become down hearted for they only lose one player this year and Crawfordsville one. So next season the odds will be the same as far as players are concerned, but better for Lebanon, as to coaching. It is not the thing to do to lie down. Better wait until nextyer and then take the honors forwhich all have fought so hard this year. The lineup and summary:Lebanon CrawfordsvilleSicks .........F ............YountLittle ..............F HerronDarnall ...........
