Larry Lilly was four-for-four on fieldgoals during the first half and ended the night with 13 of 14 fieldgoal attempts and one foul shot for 27 points.Foul trouble probably played an important role to each team. Both Lilly and Stoco’s Phil Hairston, the Indians’ big center who netted only 11 points, fouled out of the game in the fourth quarter. The two were matched against each other and each was doing a fine job in holding the other in scoring until Hairston picked up his fourth foul. After .that Lilly was able to .move toward the basket without Hairston’s big frame being there to block die drive.Stoco coach Earl Arbaugh, in commenting on the situation, said, “Lilly started scoring and Hairston was in foul trouble and couldn’t do much about it.” Sonhia coach Bob Douglaslayups in the first half was a deciding factor. Douglas agreed Stoco had too- many inside shots, especially for the zone defense the Bluehawks were using. “Stoco hit pretty good from the outside, but they got too many drive-in shots. We let them drive right down through us on defense.”Stoco relied on its aggressive offense and defense in die first half to get two and three shots at the basket and retain athree - to - five point lead throughout much of the first half.Sophia started out by getting three quick fouls on guard Greg Cullop. Both teams had several fouls against them by the end of the first quarter as the officials continued to call a close contest as they had done in ie first game.Sophia went out to a 4-0 lead after one minute of play before Cullop received three straightfouls to shake the Bluehawk team. Stoco then battled back to a 4-4 tie at 5:40. The Indians went out to a five-point lead before Steve Copney hit two foul shots with 3:33 remaining to snap Sophia’s scoreless streak.Sophia and Stoco kept exchanging baskets at that point, but the Bluehawks started picking up extra ground and tied the score at 19-19 with S:23 remaining in the first half..Sophia then went out to afive-point advantage but Stoco refused to give in to the Bluehawks* height and held a three-point lead, 32-29, at the half.In the third quarter Lilly sparked the Bleuhwks by scoring Sophia’s first three baskets of the half to put the Bluehawks back into the lead. Sophia raced to a 46-36 lead with 2:60 remaining in the quarter but Stoco came to within two, 5(M8 at the end of three frames. Again in the fourth quarter Lilly hit three straight baskets to send Sophia out jo a 10-point lead, but the Sophia scoring ace foded out at the point and Stoco reeled off five straight points.Just as it looked Stoco was going to take command, Hairston fouled out, ending the Stoco rally.-Xvl \ 1; £££Xlt; Cv I; Cv/aw/aw^mj:.; •mmmShady SpringDavid Shuck 3-4*5 '0 10Edwin Wolfe 4 1-4 5 9Gary Heaberlin 3 6*8 3 12Eugene Mcpeake 1 0*0 4 2Fred Burroughes 6 5-7 0 17David Shaw 8-0-0 2 4Mark Walker ■ 0 2-3 0 2Total* 19 18-25 14 56Trap Hill Doug Berkel 2 0-0 6 4Gary Hollandsworth e 0*0 1 12Arthur Moore 7 5-7 3 18Jeff Herron 1 o-l .2 2Larry Brown 1 0-0 3 2Garland Dillon o 0*0 ’l 0Dickie Allen 1. 0-0 1 2John Snuffer 0 0-0 1 0Ron Berkel • 0 0*1 10Richard Lomax 0 4-4 3-4Totals 18 9-13 21 45Shady Spring 8 20 14 14-*fc5«Trap Hill 4 17 10 1H5
