Established in 1886.ROY SMITH LIABLE FOR LOSS[OF HANDIndustrial Board Says Mr. Smith Must Pay Anton Gose $9.90 a Week for 125 Weeks.iThe Indiana Industrial Board last week rendered its decision in the case brought by Anton Gose of Covington for the loss of his hand against Roy Smith, a prominent farmer who resides about three miles north of Covington. Last summer while operating a corn shredder on the Smith farm Gose got his hand caught in the machinery while he was oiling it. The hand was so badly mangled that amputation was necessary. Gose made application before the Indiana Industrial Board for compensation under the workman’s compensation law. The shredder was owned by several farmers and they along with Mr. Smith were made defendants in the case. The froard, however, held that Mr. Smith was alone liable under the law as he was the employer of Gose at the time, and they found 8 i that Smith under the statute 8 would hafe to pay Gose $9.90 a week for 125 weeks. If this finding is in accordance y with the law the case is a very im-nLttaportant one to farmers, as ity stand them in hand to carry in-8 demnity insurance for all their 'farm labor. Nebeker Dice of e, Covington who represented Smith r' in this case are of the opinion, so ^ i it is said, that farm labor is notcovered by the workman’s compensation law, and they will ask for a ir j hearing in this case by the wholel“ Industrial Board.l-ie7-•8MAJOR RICH INSPECTS ATTICA NATIONAL GUARDSCompany I 151st Infantry Indi-•djana National Guards of this city a: underwent their first annual in-y. i spection at the armory Saturday. _ ^ m i rrVif n A aw A 1 ’1* D i/ilt
