(AP)—The president of the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) repulsed a Russian attempt Wednesday to remove the championship label from the World Amateur Ice Hockey Tournament starting here Thursday.“The world and European championship will go on as planned before,” said Robert LeBel of Mont-COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (UPI)—The Japanese team for the 1962 World Ice Hockey Championships arrived at Colorado Springs late Tuesday night and reported itself in good physical condition.real, president of the IIHF, after the organization met Wednesday.“No vote was taken,” said LeBel, “because the proposal was not in on time. The constitution calls for a proposal or motion to be made 60 days before the meeting. This was not done.”Vasily Napasnikov, the Russian delegate,, attempted to propose that the IIHF rule out the tournament as the official world and European championship. LeBel said he refused to entertain the motion on the ground it violated the IIHF constitution.LeBel said “there will be more discussion this evening as to what will be done in the future. We intend to take steps to insure that every member of our federation can participate. Because of politics, some did not. We’re all put out that not all can play.” Napasnikov said he thought thatthere might be further discussion on his attempted motion Wednesday night. But LeBel said- the 1962 championships are set and nothing will change them.Russia, Czechoslovakia, Rumania and Yugoslavia pulled out of the tournament because the East German players could not get travel permits from , the Allied Travel Bureau in Berlin. The NATO nations refused to issue permits as part of a reprisal for the wall erected by the communists in Berlin.Napasnikov protested there could be no official championships when an IIHF member team is banned from the meeting.Denver U.
