Tornado Blasts Wildcats 57-36 To Gain Semi-FinalsThe Waynfsboro-Mont Alto Tornado blew 'into the semi-finals of the District III OlasS B playoffs Saturday night by thujnping the Dallas town Wildcats 57-36 on the Gettysburg High School floor.A near-capacity crowd of between 900 and 1,000 fans including large delegations from Waynesboro and Dallastown, witnessed the battle.Toweripg Tom Cross, 6:07 pivot poured 20 points through the hoop to run his season’s total to 466 in 21 games for an. average of 22.18 per ( game. Long Tom faked the cats’ * 0:09.5 tap-off operative, Johnny Work, virtually out of his oversized sneakers, to get in position for his rapidly improving going-away hook shot.Defensively Tom held his taller opponent to five points. Tom posted11 points in first period’ as the Tornado took a 17-15 leadt Then Tom began handing off to his teammates as the Toniado offensively begamto widen the gap in the score.Through the first period things were nip and tuck. Early in the second period Dallastown tied the count at 17-all and that was the last time the score was even close.Holding Dallastown to four points In the second' period the Tornado left the floor at half time with a12 point advantage. At the three-quarter stop the margin was 14. points. /Larry Provard, the Tornado floor general, hit with deadly accuracy from outside totaling 13 points while Carroll Hartle, sophomore ace, added 12. The paii* took of the slack 1 when Tom Cross began handing off to Tomadomen slicing underthe hoop.The Wise brothers, Don and Dean, were the backbone of the Dallastown club ‘ scoring all but seven points. Don, a 6:01 junior, had a hot hand the second half accounting lor 14 of the 17 points. He produced 18 points for his nights effort.Brother Dean, 5:10.5 senior was the point-getter the first half with 10.
