Checotah copped the NOAA basketball championships, in both the boys and girls divisions last Friday night With twin victories over the visiting Stigler teams. \The Wildcats won their thjrd successive game of the season, from the Panthers, this time by a margin.- • :...................................- 1The Cats held a bare 13 to 10] lead at the end of the first half,! but both teams began finding the range in the final stanzasr I^ Checotah finished the season with an 114 record to beat out Sallisaw who finished with a 9-3 mark. The Cats lost only to Tahlequah in I conference play; . / 1, The Checotah girls had a perfect season in conference play going through' the season without defeat. They lost only four games during the year to independent teams in tournament play. .Benny Osborn hit for 12 points, followed by Eddy with 11 and Humphrey with 9.Dorothy Abbott, star Checotahgirls forward, hit for 22 points against Stigler.Last Thursday night the Wildcats journeyed to Tahlequah to take a 39 to 35 decision over the third place Tigers. Checptah led 24 to 15 at the half, but the Tigers pulled up to 29 to 25 at the close of the third period. Checotah maintained its slim, margain during the third period.The Cats lost to Rentiesville in the district playoffs by a 4 point 38 to 32 margin.
