San Saba High School is to have an athletic ’ field. At the meeting of the school board Tuesday night the old cemetery lot west of the Methodist church was donated to the school by Mrs, R. W. Burleson and J, W. Longley with the understanding that it is to be used by the school as an athletic field and will be school property and cannot be sold at any time.This lot was originally given to the Methodist church by the late Dr. J. C. Rogan. The deed included a clause that it was to be used as a public park. Nothing was donef . . The land came into the hands of the late Mrs. Ben1 ■ vLongley and Mrs. Burleson and Mr.Longley are the sole heirs to the*property. They have generously, donated the land to the school.The field will be dedicated as “Rogan Field” sometime next fall in memory of the beloved Dr. Rogan A more fitting name could not be given as his original idea was that it be used for public purposes.ft is now planned to have a football field with a circular track around the field. This will serve for the{ Interscholastic League Meets. The field will be lighted for night football games and it is planned to have it ready for the opening of the season next fall.E. W. Mclnnis, Worth Doran and Lynn Ward were appointed a committee to work out plans for cleaning the tract and work on the field will start in the near future.A petition committee .composed, of W. G. Lindsey, chairman; Lee Oliver and James 'Murray are preparing circulating petitions for the different school districts of the county, whereby property-paying qualified voters will be asked to sign requesting the commissioners court to levy a tax not to exceed five cents on the one hundred dollars of property, the proceeds to be used in the purchase of the old San Saba County Fair Park, north of the city. Sponsored by the .San Saba County Old Settlers Association, it is hoped to purchase at once the fifty-five acre tract of land from B, C, May, local business -man. 'Community committees are Cherokee, J. T. Hilling McMiilin, Hugh Miller; Algerita, G. R. Lane; Richland Springs, H. A. Graham; San Saba, W. C. Biggs and Dr. O. M. Walters; Fairview, J. T. Taylor; Wallace Creek, Will Martin; Harmony, Lee Oliver and R. E. Senter-fitt; Harkeyville, W. R. Baxter; Rough Creek, Albert Low; Live Oak, W. A. Oliver.
