Utah Stages Second Half Comeback To Win Skyline TitleSALT LAKE CITY (UPI)— Utah’s explosive Redskins nailed down their second successive Skyline conference championship and won an NCAA tournament berth Saturday night by turning back stubborn Colorado State Univer-I sifcy 87-83.A crowd of 6,246 saw Utah stage a second half comeback to turn back the determined Coloradans. The victory gave Utah a 13-1 conference record and 24-2 overall mark.Utah was unable to break the game open until the last five minutes when fouls began to take a heavy toll on Colorado State.Colorado State led 42r - 33 at halftime but after play resumed In the second half a tip-in by Bill Cowan and a pair of field goals by Allen Holmes pushed the Utes in front, 44-42.Chuck Newcomb hooked one in for the Aggies to tie it up, 44-all but Cowan followed with another long shot to give Utah a lead it protected the remaindei of the game.Utah built up its biggest advantage at 78-65 with five minutes remaining, saw Colorado State close the gap and then effectively stalled out the victory.Colorado State lost Lyle Hunsa-ker on fouls with 10:33 left in the game and Tony Reales, Jim Turner and Manny Lawrence followed Hunsaker to the sidelines via the foul route.Cowan paced the well balanced Utah scoring attack with 19. Holmes had 18 and Billy McGill 17.For Colorado State it was Chuck Newcomb with 27 and Larry Hoffner with 21.Utah shot 60 per cent from the field to 43 per cent for the Aggies.It was Utah’s fourth league title in six years under coach Jack Gardner.
