McCulloch Gains State Gym BerthEd McCulloch, captain of the Brainerd Gymnastics Team, will be the only one to represent his school in the state meet following last night’s regional tournament held at St. Cloud.As a team, Brainerd finished fourth behind first place Grand Rapids, second place Moorhead and third place St. Cloud Apollo. Finishing fifth was St. Cloud Tech while Princeton was sixth.The top three finishers in each event in the regional contest go on to state tournament competition.McCulloch finished third in the trampoline with a score of 6.45. Winning the event with a score of 6.1 was Brad Perrett of Grand Rapids.One Brainerd competitor — Mike Johnson — missed winning a berth on the state tournament squad by the narrowest of margins.Johnson finished fourth on the still rings. His score of 4.45 was only one-tenth of a point behind third place finisher Chris Fulton of Grand Rapids.The event was won for the third year in a row by Mike Hengel of St. Cloud Tech who racked up a score of 6.85.)Johnson also finished fourthin all-around with a score of 4.4.Fulton, the sophomore from Grand Rapids, won all-around with a score of 5.56.
