A FEW WEEKS ago we made mention of a great girl’s basketball family, the Tjadens at Lakota . . . but this certainly isn’t the only top sports family in North Kossuth . . .the Harold Herzogs of Ledyard are another that have hadseveral girls playing basketball for a number of years.Judy Herzog lettered all four years from 1955-1959, for Ledyard high school . . . although only 5’316”, she was one of the fastest guards on the team . . , she'll graduate from Northwestern college at Orange City in June.Next came Betty who played from 1957 through 1961 and lettered as a forward on the 1960-61 team .. . which won 21 straight games before losing to Lakota by one point in the sectional (they’d beaten them three limes previously that year) . . . Betty was named to the all-State Lino Conference team also. Now, finishing up for the Herzogs, is Nancy and she could be considered as the best . . . she was a first string guard on the.team from 1959 to 1961 and then was switched* '“to forward. She was all conferencein 1961 at guard and repeated as a forward last year . . . although a broken finger sidelined Nancy for a few weeks earlier this winter, she has come back to do an outstanding job this winter and lead the team in scoring ... she poured in 41 points as Ledyard lost in the district tournament to Eldora last WednesdayNancy Herzognight. In addition, she was sectional free throw runnerup last year and the champion this year ... a pretty fine record for three girls from the Harold Herzog family from 1955 through 1963 up at Ledyard.
