Women cagers refused tourney bidBY RICK PANTENAssistant Sports EditorThere’s been a robbery at the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh.The women’s basketball team has been denied a berth to the 1993 NCAA Division IIJ basketball tournament.“It's a huge disappointment/' Coach Kathi Bennett said. I feci we have not been treated fairly.The Titans finished their season lied for third place in the Wisconsin Women’s Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WWIAC) with UW-Whiiewater with a record of 12-4. However, the Waihawks had two more overall victories (IS).UW-Oshkosh hurt itself at the beginning of the season by losing five of their first eight games. But in a complete turn-around, they would finish the remainder of the season winning 13 of their final 14.“Take away the first part of theseason, and we’re worth getting a bid. They’re the most important”Some final statistics for the WW1 AC showed Oshkosh rankedsecond in the conference in rebounding only to Stout, and third in 3-poim iield-goal percentage.Some individual statistics included Wendv Wanticrin fifth in the conference for field-goal percentage, shooting nearly 55 percent overall. Natalie DeMichei was lied for eighth h ini rig 5 2 percent of her shots. Wangerin also sunk 86 percent of her free throws lo earn her a number-one ranking in that category.Jessie Hoinacki was ranked sixth in the league for assists and eighth in rebounding, followed by Wangerin, who held the number nine spot. A final standing showed Amy Wing ranked third in the league for steals.
