By KATE WINCHESTERDemocrat correspondentGARDEN VALLEY — The Golden Sierra High baseball team lost to the Argonaut Mustangs, 8-4, in its Erst game of the season Thursday. The Mustangs were the runners up in the Mother Lode League last year with a 17-3 record.“We have potential,”said Grizzly Co-captain Phil Seabury. “Now we just have to leam how to put it to good use.”The Grizzlies were tied with Argonaut at 2-2 until the Mustangs scored six runs on four hits In the top of thefourth inning. Argonaut had seven hits overall.“We made a good start,” Grizzly Coach Mark Hendrix said. “We did some good things but we were rusty ” Hendrix went on to praise his starting pitcher. Brian Thomas.“I have high hopes for Thomas,” hesaid. “I know he is going to make a big contribution to our team this year.” Thomas, a right handed sophomore, retired the first three batters he faced.“I felt I hit good,” said Thomas, who had two of the Grizzlies six hits going 2*for-2 at the plate. “I was tense on the mound and never really got relaxed. I had first game jitters Next time I will be able to relax and play my own game.”Golden Sierra junior Marc Lind-bloom, pitched the final inning did especially well for the home team, striking out six while only giving up one run on two hits.The highlight of the afternoon came in the bottom of the fifth when Golden Sierra’s Bryan Scheneman, who had finished his last basketball game of the season the night before and had yet to show up at baseball practice hit a home run on the third pitch he saw all year.
