SKI AREA DEVELOPMENT PLANS AIRED AT MEETLONE PINE, Calif.—Officers were elected at a meeting of the Inyo Associates here last week. Heading the oiganizatlon will be William Vance, president and EtfHall, vice president, both of Big Pine. They succeed George Plummer, president and Stanley Lloyd, secretary, both of Bishop.Plans for a major skx development In the Robinson Bastn near Onion Valley, west of Independence, were discussed by Tomml Tyndall. The ski promoter displayed paintings, photos and charts of the terrain and snow conditions in the Rob-Bishop ElectionSlated April 8BISHOP, Caiif. — Bishop voters will elect two councilmen April 8 from a list of four names. Seeking the posts are the two incumbents, Mayor Wilton Cornell, and D, K. Cieland, as well as Robert Erskine, merchant, and John Leggett, sanitary engineer.Both Cornell and Cieland have served on the council for the past four years. The terms of the other three members, Bob Symons, Joseph Serventi, and David Wiltsie do not expire until 1960.inson Basin. Plans also call for a series of chair lifts and rope tows.The area is near the section operated by O. K. Kelley, and Vic Taylor of Independence, Calif., both of whom are cooperating m the new development.The Robinson Basin terrain will provide skiing from elevations exceeding 11,500 feet and has northern exposure slopes s'milar to those on Mammoth Mountain.Plans call for naming the area “Inyo Valley with an Alpine village near Onion Valley. Tyndall expects that the first lift will cose some S 200,000 and that about $1,250,000 will be spent before the development is completedOne base camp will be located at 90:55 feet and another at 11,600 feet with a 900-foot racing drop above that point.Application for the first lift is now being made.John K. Smith, Inyo county administrator, reported thatWinter weather has halted work on the Whitney Portal road, which will be resumed about April 1. The South Lake road project bids will be advertised during May. He said that the county hopes to nave the Onion Valley road improvement bids ready by the Winter of 1958-59.
