VOLUME LUI.fiftyYhird year.BASKETBALL TCAMWINS GREAT GAMEever, this bunch was merely a handful in comparison with the several hundred Lebanon ropters. The game was desperately fought,4tlt;CRAWFORDSVILLE FIVE MET ITS FIRST DEFEAT IN TWO YEARSFRIDAY NIGHT.Both Teams Played Spectacular, Butthe Lebanon Boys Displayed Greater Staying Qualities and Won Out—~ Visitors Gracefully Accept Defeat,Lebanon led all during the first half which ended 8 to 6. Crawfordsviile forged ahead early in the second half, but Lebanon drew alongside and then passed -the Athenians. The playing of the guards on both teams was Remarkable and this kept down the field goals while Lebanon caged four. Little, for Lebanon, was the star goal tosser, getting three baskets.”\In what is said to have been one of»the fastest and most brilliant games ’of basket ball ever played in Indiana, the Lebanon High Schoolffive defeated the Crawfordsviile quintet at the highschool gynasium last Friday night by me score of 16 to 12. It was the first defeat for the Athenians in two years, and they had come to think they wereunbeatable, so it became necessary for the local team to convince them that they were not it.”The game was a desperately fought one from start to finish. It was apparent early in the contest that the victory would go to the team best able to keep up the terrific pace, and the Lebanon boys showed the most endurance. The visitors, however were not quitters at any stage of the contest* and put up a game fight until the whistle blew, with Lebanon four points to the good. Both teams were exhausted as a result of the gruelling contest. It would be a difficult matter to make special mention of the good work of any individual player, as every member of both teams did yeoman service, and it was their combined work that made the game rank as one of the finest in the history of the sporWhen the game ended with Lebanon a winner, the overjoyed spectators crowded upon the floor and hoisted the victorious players upon their shoulders and carried them to the dressing room. The students of the local school former a procession, marched around the square, c:id%wound up the celebration with a bonfire. The Crawfordsviile Journal, in commenting on the game, has the following: “In a game replete with spectacular playing, Lebanon High School*defeated the city high school basket ball team, by a score of 16 to 12. The contest was of the most desperate kind, both teams being keyed up to the highest pitch of fighting power. Only once during the game—and’thatin the last minute of play—were the%teams separated by a margin of more than two points. The gaifi# was a battle royal and was so fast and sensational that the large crowd of spectators were kept in a high pitch of enthusiasm during the whole game.“Lebanon was the first to score, .Little throwing a pretty field goal ftrom the center of the floor. With this lead of two points, the Boone^c^unty lads fought desperately to maintain it, and it was not until the middle of the second half that the local lads were ahle to forge to the front. Herron threw a pretty field goal when the score was standing 10 to 0 in favor ofLebanon. This lead for the locals►was of short life, however, as Jfittle put his team in the lead by throwing a field goal, The locals evened up matters with Herron tossing a free throw. Then in the last two minutes of play Little secured another fieldgoal, which together with two foul goals, cinched victory for the Boone county team.i The gafiie was won strictly oh itsmerits. It would be manifestly unfair to say which fiihn played best for his team, as everyone worked hard. The flight for the game was such as to inspire a friendly feeling among the spectators for both teams. With suchan exhibition as both beatm put up both should have won, as It Is too bad that either of two such game fighting machines should have to take the short end of any score.”\ The Review says: “Well, theCivil Service Examination.A competitive examination under^ the rules of the U.
