M’FADDEN IS BEATEN .BY GARDNERLight Weight From New York Proves No Match' for the German.Chicago !Mairch. 3'.—lt;5us Gakdner beat the mighty George McFadden. the boasted “light-weight champion,” into a pulp at the opening show of the Wabash Athletic club the other night. McFadden had but a mighty small /chance of getting the money at any stage of the game, for the German from Philadelphia gave him a frightful trouncing at all stages, and in the sixth round all but had McFadden out. This proved to be one of the most astonishing fights seen here in many days, and the result was little short of the surprise that-same of the failure of “Wild Bill Kanrahan to de-1 feat Frank Childs. The crowd went j fairly wild when it was seen that McFadden was being beaten, and when in the third round Gardner hit his man in the jaw and put him to the floor, groggy and dazed., the crowd was mad with excitement. McFadden tried his best to drag himself to his feet with the assistance of the ropes, but as soon as he stood up Gardner put him down again. He finished the round by dint of hanging on for dear life. After that it was all Gardner and the New Yorker did not have a chance. He did plenty of “dirty” work and it is plain to see how he came by the nickname of Elbows.” The decision easily went to Gardner.
