4:30,With seven lettermen back from last year’s 8-13 team, Kofa High School's baseball squad makes it’s season debut at Calexico Tuesday.Game time is set for Arizona time.Head coach Dean Stout’s list of emblem winners includes two pitchers who will be counted on heavily throughout thecourse of the season — Ed Ramirez and Dale Hannon.Both right handers, Rameriz and Hannon will share themound duties in the opener Tuesday, with Hannon starting things off.Other lettermen include former first sacker now playing the outfield, Lou Melkowski,shortstop George Martinez, first baseman Greg Scott, third baseman Fred Rico and outfielder Greg Benjamin.When not pitching, Rameriz will be used at shortstop and Hannon will go to the outfield.Stout’s roster this season also includes several performersfrom last year’s junior varsitysquad.Heading the list are Joe Soldwedel and Frank Preciado, both of whom are slated to see action in the opener.Soldwedel will be the starting f catcher, while Preciado will share duties at second base with Mike Castro, a squad member last season.Others up from the JVs include pitcher Don Gray, infielder Mark Wisener, pitcher Ron Arviso, outfielder Monte Lee and outfielder Jim WatsonWatson has landed a startingberth in left field for Tuesday.down the centerfieldHoldingspot in the opener will be Scott Coffeen, another squad member last year who did not play enough to letter.Tw'ohaveStoutiother players joined the squad that didn’t expect.One is sophomore pitcher Sid Walker. a transfer from Coachella, Calif., while the other is catcher John Meiser.Meiser, who starred on the Kofa basketball team this year, is a senior and has not played high school baseball before because of an elbow injury.“Meiser is our second best catcher after just three days,” say's Stout. “He’s had that bad elbow, but it doesn’t seem to be bothering him any now.” “Right now,” says Stout,“Walker is our third best pitcher.”He is expected to get alot of competition when Gray, who was also out for basketball, rounds into shape.When league play rolls around. Stout feels McClintock and Coronado are the teams to beat.“Both should be real tough,”he says.I’m real happy with our league schedule,” continued the■’ mentor. “The games areall either Friday or Saturday, but none back-to-back.” as they have been in the past.The one exception on the league schedule is a double-header with McClintock,” But that’s here,” says Stout.
