Bobcats Cop Fourth Straight Mason-Dixon Track TitleThe Frostburg State men’s track team copped the 27th annual Mason-Dixon Conference indoor track and field cham pionships yesterday at Towson, marking the fourth straight year the Bobcats have reigned as champs in that competition.The fleet ’Cats of coach Bob Lewis racked up 191 points on six first-place finishes and an assortmentof second, third, fourth, and fifth-place slots in displaying their thinclad depth.Noel Cyrus copped first place in the 880-vard run with a 2:00.27 and Howard Bailey turned in a first-place 7.4 in the 60-yard hurdles.Mike Spinnler led all competition in the two-mile run with a winning 9:31.7. In the mile relay the clickingcombination of Bas Prins, Noel Cyrus, Gary Alston, and Dwain Thomas turned in a 3:27.1 to win that event.Triple jump artist Mike Taylor dominated that event for his fourth straight year with a distance of 45 feet and nine and one-quarter inches. Taylor won this same conference event as a freshman, sophomore, junior and again this year as a seniorJames Robinson naileddown the long jump honors with a leap of 23 feet and three-quarters of an inch.The Bobcats remain idle after yesterday’s stellar performances until March 14 when they will compete in the East Stroudsberg State College Invitational, which is the final indoor meet for the Bobcatsand fourth in the high jump competition.In the mile run event, Julie Etchison qualified for the upcoming Eastern regional finals with a fifth-place 5:37 as teammateMacGill Dugan also qualified in the same event with a time of 5:41 Taking second place in the two-mile relay was the ’Cat combination of Kim Gehrke, Cary Kane.
