Michael L. Schwager, former star tackle at Northwestern University, has been named head football coach at St. Philip high school, it was announced today by the school’s principal, Rev. Brendan M. LaFave, O.S.M.An all-state tackle while at Lane Tech and a Scholastic All-America as well as Big Ten tackle with the W i 1 d c a t s, Schwager was coached by Ara Parseghian and Alex Agase. During the spring of his senior year he acted as defensive line coach at Northwestern and was drafted by the Chicago Bears when he graduated in 1965. However, he chose not to play professional football.Schwager is presently a member of the faculty at De-LaSalle high school where he served last fall as line coach for the Meteors who won the Chicagoland Prep league crown.
