CaL—In a heavy drizzle and cold, biting wind an enormous crowd Tuesday saw Al Wolgast of Milwaukee defeat Rattling Nelson for the lightweight championship of the world In the fortieth round of the scheduled 45-round fight.While Nelson was not knocked out he was on the point of collapse when Referee Eddie Smith stopped the fight and awarded the verdict toWolgast.Nelson was a pitiful sight as he staggered about the ring in the last few rounds with one eye closed and blood streaming from his mouth, nose and ears.Notwithstanding his weakened condition from the loss of blood and the fearful punishment that Wolgast administered the Battler put up a game fight throughout.Los Angeles. Cal.—Frankie Conley 1 of Kenosha, WIb., and Monte Atteli of San Francisco battled in sensational style for the better part of three hours Tuesday before the Pacific Ath letlc club in the Vernon arena.Conley won with a clean knockout In the forty-second round. Atteli, so badly worn and battered that he could scarcely keep his feet, was floored In his own corner with a right swing which caught him far back of the left ear on the neck.* i
