June 30, 1948Kingsville All-Stars Take Both Ends of Twin Bill Here SundayF[Paced by the sensational performance of hurler Romero Gut-tierrez, the Kingsville Missouri Pacific All-Stars swept a double-header from the Gregory Indians here Sunday to bounce up into a tie with Taylor Refining and the Kingsville Collegians for fourth place in the Coastal Bend League pennant chase. The All-Stars dumped the winless Indians 7 to 3 and 3 to 2 in two abbreviated seven-inning scraps.All - Star pitcher Guttierrez pitched both games, struck out 14, gave only four walks, allowed only five hits in 14 innings along with as many runs, stole one base, batted .333 in two hits out of six times at bat, batted in one run, and scored the winning run of the nightcap to break a 2-2 tie. Guttierrez also probably kept score, filled the water buckets, and sprinkled the infield.
