Monday! june 27, 1966THE EVENING SUN 7Merchants Mash MacThe Norwich Merchants speared the Milford Mac's 7 to 5 yesterday in an Inter-County Lea. gue game at Veteran's Park.With his team providing 9 hits to back him up, Keith Vanderlipp pitched 6 innings of fine baseball for the Merchants, striking out 11 batters. He was relieved in the seventh inning by Bob Ca. ble who retired another Mac batter.The Milford pitchers were Ron Crandall, who struck out 9 men in 6 innings, and Carl Munson, who came in at the sev-enth inning to mow down 2 more.Catching for Norwich was Dave O'Neil, who went all the way for the home team. PaulBanta was behind the plate for 7 innings for the Mac’s until he was replaced with Portarizzi in the eighth.Dick Neir led the Milford team to the plate with 2 for 4, including a triple and 2 runs batted in.Sharing hitting honors for the Merchants were Dave Petley, who was 2 for 3 with a triple. Cliff Stone, who had 2 for 4 with a triple, and Keith Vanderlipp, helping his cause as pitcher by coming off the mound to get 2 for 3 at the plate.The Merchants played tight baseball, allowing no errors,while the Mac's had one In the first Inning and one In the eighth.
