Powers Sparks Junior Legion Nine to VictoryDennis Pow« rs hit a grand slam home run and a single as Janesville scored nine runs in the first inning and went on to defeat Monroe, 13-1, in a State Line Junior Legion Baseball League game here Saturday. The victory moved Janesville into a tie with Beloit for second place in the Western Division with 3-1 records, half a game behind Ldgerton (3-0). It was Monroe s first defeat and the team now has a 2-1 markPowers’ hits were the only ones Janesville got in that frame. Powers opened the inning by singling and stealing secot.d. Two errors and five bases on balls followed Powers then blasted his 4-run homer.The victors scored two more runs in the second on walks to Doug Me Lay and Jerry Stadler, singles by Ron Grabow and Arme Quaerna and a sacrifice by Bob Wagner.The last two Janesville runs came in the fourth on a hit, three bases on balls and an error.Monroe tallied one run in thefifth on a walk, error and single. | Wagner on the mound for Janesville allowed six hits, walked four and fanned eight. Janesville got six hits off Jerry Schliem and Dave Grams. Schliem fanned one and walked seven and gave up three hits in two innings.
