Three Area Drivers Earn Top Five FinishBy Bill CanhamJoumal-News StaffAction Sunday night at the Beatrice Speedway saw Fairbury-area drivers take three of the top five places in the A Feature.In the first heat of the Flyer division, Lawrence Wamke finished third to qualify him for the A. Kevin Schmidt wron the third heat with Wade Baldwin and Paul Huss finishing third and fourth respectively. All three drivers qualified for the A.Tracy Amtt had to earn a spot in the A by running the B Feature. Amtt had no trouble with the field and cruised to the victory.In the A Feature Amtt andSchmidt wound their way through the pack from their starting spots in the rear. With a few laps remaining, Amtt went to work to overtake Roy Armstrong of Beatrice for the lead. Ironically enough, Armstrong finished second behind Amtt in the B and this time, repayed the favor to Amtt and took the win.Amtt finished second in the A with Schmidt right close behind in third. Baldwin finished fifth, Wamke took eighth and Huss placed 14th.Action continues next Saturday night, with racing beginning at 7 p.m. at the Gage County Fairgrounds.
