The score, 4 to 2 will serve to show how close the game was, but gives no indication of the thrills with which the contest was packed. It liiked as though Derby had thegame sewed up when tbev got three runs in the third inning as the result of a hit, an error, a walk and a hit batter. Branford made its bid in the fourth, scoring two runs on Sanzero’s two-bagger. Everything was fairly tight until the eighth when Branford got two men on bases with only one out. Then Abeam’ struck out the next man and the third went down as the result of a foul which the Derby first -baseman pulled in over behind the Derby bench. In the ninth again Branford looked good when they filled the bases with none out. Akeara again came throngh striking out two men with a fast one that fairly burned the air. Millie Thomas then hit a high fly into left field which the Derby fielder gathered in and ended the gameThe High School team has had a fin. season this year, and its record ha*» been a pleasant surprise to its support ere. Starting in with a green team. Coach Dan Daly rounded them into shape and discovered in Brannigan a4* good a schoolboy pitcher as can be found in this / section. When Branford beat Derby 4 to 1 on the latter *s home field, they handed Derby their first defeat in the Housatonic League for two seasons and caused “Red” Ahearn to drop the first school game of hi* career. The fact that the team finished in position to play off a tie for firstplace is a fine compliment to theirfighting spirit and a big feather inDan Daly’s cap.
