This week the Canton Pirates of the Northern Baseball League have a busy time. On Wednesday they travel to Tupper Lake to play a non-league game with the Tup per Lake league team whom they will meet again on June 80. Thursday and Friday Chappie's Colored All-Stars from Long Branch, Syracuse amusement park, will invade Canton to play two games of high class baseball. Chappie Johnson is well known in the North Country. This year he has a new team which is being managed by Mr. Shaul, noted Syracuse bowler and bowling alley proprietor. The All-Stars won from Chateaugay 5-3, and from Plattsburg Mill Team 13-7 on their trip north last week. t Malone, under the direction of Henry (Hank) Hodge, noted Clarksonbaseball coach, broke a seven-game* f 1winning streak of Chappie’s aggregation by downing the colored lads 4-3 in a thirteen inning tussle. Chappie said that his center fielder dropped a high fly allowing the Hodgemen to tie the score up at three all in the ninth—but that’s all in baseball.Among the new colored aggregation are Jackson, one-handed first baseman; Jim Reed, who lost to Malone Friday; Carr, another twirler; Lefty Winters, who will pitch Friday against the Pirates; Craig Williams, second'to none behind the bat—that includes Buck Ewing, according to reports. This, boy Winters would be in the major leagues if he was a white lad. Chappie has won 12 and lost 4 games up to Friday night.Come early to the games and see the famous shadow ball practice which rivals the House of David pepper game. By the way, the be-whiskered ball players will invade the Canton ball park late in August for a night game—remember the date—August 6.
