Former NAHL Treasurer ArrestedHAUPPAUGE, L.I. (UPI) - The former treasurer of the North American Hockey League was arrested Wednesday in Haup-pauge, L.I. on a charge of stealing more than $130,000 from the league.Suffolk County District Attorney Henry F. O’Brien said former NAHL Treasurer Leo Lamoureux, 35, utilized in excess of $130,000 in league funds for personal and business purposes.”O’Brien declined to disclose exactly how Lamoureux had disposed of the money, but he said none of it has been recovered.According to O’Brien, Lamoureux embezzled the money between June 1, 1974 and February 28 of this year while he was, as treasurer of the League, the sole custodian of the funds which were deposited in the Smithtown (L.I.) branch of the Marine Midland Tinker National Bank.Assistant District Attorney Michael Ahearn said that the funds represented a war chest to bail out any team that ran into financial difficulty.”Lamoureux resigned in February as NAHL treasurer and as general manager of the now-defunct Long Island Cougars, one of the league teams. He was general manager of the Cougars from 1973 until last February.O’Brien said Lamoureux has been president since 1966 of United Exterminators, Inc., a termite extermination firm.The district attorney refused to say how much of the missing funds were funneled into United.Former League Commissioner Bob Dextraze discovered discrepancies in the account early this year and a subsequent audit lead to the investigation which resulted in Lamoureux’s arrest, O’Brien said.He surrendered Wednesday morning to the District Attorney’s office in Riverhead in the company of his lawyer, Bernard Sarisohn of Smithtown, and was scheduled for arraignment later in the day on an indictment charging him with one count of second degree grand larceny, i
