10 YEARS AGOSheriff George Bridgman and a squad of deputies were busy combing Berrien county highways today for five convicts who escaped from Jack* »n yesterday. Alter beating up two guards and breaking prison, the five stole a car and headed this way. They were again seen outside of Kalamazoo and speeding toward Paw Paw. It is thought fhe fugitives cut off the main highway outside of Paw Paw to gamble on the smaller communities, where there is less chance to be cornered.1Attorney W. P. Harvey left this morning for Grand Rapids, where he will spend the next few days on legal business.*’G. ML Nl|es returned to Benton Harbor today from Chicago, where he spent a few days on business'and visiting friends.Word has been received here from the west, where the House of David traveling baseball team is playing, that two players were slightly hurt when the car In which theg were riding turned over. The players were hired athletes, the Information said, and not members of the local colony. The accident happened about *5 miles east of Denver.Mr*. Vern Clark of Brunson avenue left this morning for Ann Arbor, where she will enter the University hospital.
