BY A STAFF CORRESPONDENTE\V YORK, June 18.—President Stoneham has unpeeled $300,000from the Giants’ bankroll andhanded it to Manager McGraw with carte blanc instructions to go into the baseball market and get some players, in an attempt to put New York back on the National league map. ,McGraw has added every player on the team, none reserved, it is understood, to the pool and is ready to purchase, trade or dicker for anything in the league. He started out with an offer of $150,000 and two players to St. Kouis for Roger Hornsby, but was informed by Branch Rickey he wouldn't sell Hornsby for $300,000.The Giants manager made some progress with Philadelphia by trading Fletcher, even up, for Bancroft and is now engaged in negotiations with Brooklyn tor a couple of pitchers. Several Cubs, also, are to figure in a swap with New York, if present plans go through. Pittsburgh is the only other club that will entertain offers, but has refused to part with Pitcher Cooper, whom McGraw wants, unless the Giants manager raises his ante.
