Middletown, Conn., third.In a parachute Jumping contest combining skill in accuracy of landing, speed in a dash to the target and a bit of luck. Llvesey totaled Just 9.5 seconds for three sprints. Each contestant Jumped three times from an altitude of 3,000 feet and.after opening his parachute, attempted to steer his canopy to a landing on the five-inch target disc. Upon touchdown, each contestant raced the stopwatch to the Dead Center disc.Theoretically, a landing next to the target would result in a short dash, but unexpected obstacles can block even the most accurate contestant. On his second Jump, Marchese, although landing only 10 feet himself from the hundreds of feet of canopy which had collapsed on top of him. •During the third round, brisk winds added to the hysteria onthe target. Another strong contender. equally close to the target. was whisked away abruptly by his relnflated canopy as ho was about to plant his boot on the target disc. And the stopwatch ran on.Lugging their booty with them, prize winners, contestants, spectators and friends retired in the evening to The Inn at Orange, overlooking the airport for a victory celebration.
