Shewbridge Field Sports Hope for No More RainSouthtown sports fans are hoping for a break in the weather this week after having rain wash out the stellar attractions in Shewbridge field, 74th and Aberdeen sts., last week-end.The Buffalo Democrats, champions of the state of New York, will furnish the baseball opposition for the Garden City Brewers Saturday and Sunday nights while the Havana, Cuba, All-Stars will battle the Chicago Mills in a doubleheader Sunday afternoon.Coach Bill Harley of the Mills will hold over his pitching selections of last Sunday to oppose the Cubans. They are Tony Sims, former star right-hander of the Spencer Coals, and Jack Wilkins, hefty southpaw. The first game will start at 1:30 p.m.Outstanding flayer*.Buffalo, which encounters the strong defending Girls’ Major League champions, Garden City Brewers, on Saturday and Sunday nights, has a number of outstanding players on its roster. Dorothy ‘Shepard. 21-year-old pitcher recently held Rochester, N.Y., to ' one hit; Catcher Gertrude ftaszeja is a versatile athlete and has compiled an enviable record; the first baseman, Marge Sonny Boy” Schweem, hat a reputation of being m ot beat hitters throw1ers and sliders in the east, and Norma Quillow, rookie second sacker, has added a lot of spirit to the team.‘ Pitching for the Brewers against the Easterners will be Carolyn Ollrich, who has won eight straight league games, and Catherine Fel-lemeth, versatile athlete whose home is at 5200 Justine st.Other Games.Other games on the Garden City Brewers schedule this week at Shewbridge field are Winkler Motors tonight; Rival Dog Food girls, Friday; Rockola Music girls, Tuesday and the league-leading Parichy Bloomer girls with “Boots” Klupping, next Wednesday night. All of the games are Girls’ Major league games and will start at 9 p.m. with a preliminary tilt, featuring the Shewbridge Field Maids, at 7:30 p.m.“Ray Schalk Night,” scheduled for last Sunday together with a game between Litchfield, 111., led by Mike Kreevich's sister, and the Garden City Brewers, has been postponed until later in the season when Litchfield has an open date in its schedule. The doubleheader between the Mills and the House of David also was postponed until the first part of August when the bearded stars return fro® a Western invasion.
