GAME AT HOSPITAL.The game of base ball between the West Side Clerks and the M. S. Co. Giants, Tuesday afternoon, at the hospital grounds, was interesting from start to iini8h. Although in the fourth inning the West Siders got a lead of five runs over their opponents, theGiants came back strong and it looked as though the score would be close to | w a tie, but errors behind Johnston, the Giants’ pitcher, forced in more runs and the game was won for the West Siders. Goodrich pitched good ball all the way for the West Siders, striking out thirteen of the heavy hitters from the other team, and Markel gave him good support, making several difficult stops and catching several men attempting to steal bases.AFor the Giants Duke Cunningham was the real star. Duke had his batting clothes on and succeeded in landing the ball safe three times out of four times up, and getting to first the fourth time on some fast running. J.Johnston, at short, covered lots of$ | ground for the colored team, and in the last inning retired the side on assists to first base on difficult chances.A. Johnston, the pitcher for the Giants, was found safely twelve times, but usually for scratch hits, the West Side Clerks being unable to connect in good style with his slow curves.For the West Siders Powell played astrong game at short stop, making a | one-handed stop and throw of a difficult grounder which brought thecrowd to its feet.
