Nocona Defeated Gainesville NegroesIn a rattling good game Sunday afternoon, the Nocona baseball team routed the Gainesville Negro nine. The negroes scored first, in the first | inning, but the Nocona boys held them to a standstill until the fourth, when our boys opened up on the dusky team by scoring three i times. While the negroes put up a strong front and did some good ( playing, they failed to score. • At the beginning of the fifth, Nocona began pouring it on in great shape, and all the Strong pitching of “Red,” for the colored boys, had no effect. Nocona scored four times in the fifth. In fact, by this time “Red” had pitched his arm off and j another man w'as put 011 the , mound. Still Nocona moved on | doggedly and with fresh confidence,ran in tw’o more scores in sixth. This completely ruined the morale of the Cooke county darkeys and left them helpless as a sick kitten. J Then came th eeighth. The home team chalked up another pair,; which totaled up eleven for Nocona. j With an extreme effort 111 the ninth , inning, the negroes became furious ; and with a mighty determination, put over two runs, which totaled three for them. ISo the final and grand total I showed Nocona 11, Gainesville j Negroes 3. There was lots of fun and the negroes were good losers. I Everybody enjoyed every minute of the game.
