ONLY JAZZ IN JESS WILLARD’S CAMP IS THE OLD PIANO STOOLmmmWMDempsey Not To Train For Week Is AnnouncementTOLEDO, Ohio, Juno 16. — Jack Dempsey will not do any serious training - for his heavyweight championship contest with Jess Willard hero July ‘I until next Saturday or Sunday. This was definitely decided upon by Manager Jack Kearns today after physicians had advised him that any rough work with the gloves would likely result in re-opening the wound over his eye.Kearns decided riot to risk this danger aa the wound, if re-opened, probably would not bo thoroughly healed when Dempsey climbs into the ring to face Willard, and the champion. It was feared, would likely concentrate his attack on the Injury, which would easily impair the challenger's vision. The terrific heat of the last, few days, however, was aa much responsible for the decision to continue Dempsey's layoff as the un-healed wound. For three days Toledo has sweltered and even Willard has temporarily abolished his road work for fear of losing weight too rapidly. The champion tipped thescales at only 248 pounds yesterday, a drop of four pounds within two days, and he does not intend to bring his weight below 245 pounds.WARFIELDS DEFEATED AT RIVERSIDE, 6 TO 3BY FRED TBRBYVILiLE. .There's, nothing jazzy about Jess Willard. The only suspicion of Jasa in the champion's camp Is a piano stool someone throws into the ring every afternoon after Monaghan and Hemple have been polished off,A funny fan yelled: •Como on, throw In tho piano, too.” - • •Guess he thought Jess was going to muscle'' tho piano out a few times to strengthen his arm6.But fact of the matter. Is Jess uses the piano, stool to strengthen his stomach. . .'Jack Hcmple-or Walter Monaghan, sits In a chair facing Jess, and the champ sits on the piano stool. Jess puts liLs feet under-the lower rung of his sparring partner's chair and leans back—back until his head touches the floor. * •Then he slowly arises.- Ho repeats this many times. .* 'And the next time-you see Jess and someone.remarks that hc.hus:aroll of fat around the equator, act him right. • .It lan't fat. It a'roil of muscle that may stand Jess, in good stead July 4th when Challenger Jack Dempsey tears in wlth:rights and left3 landing ■ here and there.Jess allows both Hempleand Mon-1 aghan to hiL him In tho 3tomach—: hard as they can—and it doesn't hurt •him.PESEK DEFEATS ZYBSZKO.; GORDON, Neb..
