Jim Smith, who went In to run lor his mentor, was promptly sacrificed to second by DaveSkoneicki.A hot grounder off the bat ol Dave Brunton went through the glove ol Alton second baseman Ron Davy and bounded Into center, field to score Smith.Larry Abbott drove In Brunton but was nailed at second try* ing to stretch his single Into adouble.Brunton, who had come In to relieve starting pitcher Bob Griffiths In the fifth inning, gave up his only safety in the bottom of the eleventh.The Iroquois League All-Star struck out eight during his six* inning stint and retired the side In the eleventh after his brief lapse.Norwich jumped off to a four-run lead In the first inning before the game was hardly underway. Another error, two walks and a single to Doug Fergeson tied It In the fifth.In another wild, extra-inning game at Balnbridge, Greene pushed across five runs In the twelfth to win 11-6.Wes Tallett, the third of three Greene pitchers, got credit for the win after coming on in the eighth with the score tied and the bases loaded.Tallett retired the side In theeighth and pitched four scoreless Innings.Greene pounded out 20 hits, including four In the twelfth.Four Greene batters collected three hits and all but two had at least one safety as Greene col-lected Its third victory.Norwich and Greene are 3-2In league action.
