Donkey Baseball Will Follow Regular Game!House of David to Offer a ; Three-fold Program To- !night at New Park iA THREE-FOLD baseball program ] will be offered fans of this vicinity tonight when the House of ' David baseball circus invades the . privacy of the Iji Crosse Athletic j park for an engagement with the J 1a Crosse Troubadours. The game . starts at 8:10. |The program is as follows: ji. A nine inning regulation baseball game.J. A “pepper game at the end ! of the fifth inning.3. A “donkey baseball'* game off j two innings after regular tilt.The achievements of Grover; 1 Cleveland Alexander, former Major I1 league hurler and world series star , who will toss the first two innings ' of the regular game against the Troubadours tonight, are no mystery to any ball fan. Since he has left the big time, however, many of his admirers are wondering if Old Alex's powers have waned and if he \ can stUI pitch them past opposing hitters.Fandom of this vicinity will get a chance to determine for itself how much “Old Pete has left when he takes the mound tonight.Since leaving the major leagues j some years ago, Alexander has been doing regular mound duty with Manager Ray L. Doan's bearded club. Alex never hurls an entire game as he takes the mound every day, but he does get in there long enough to show the fans just what it was that befuddled major league hitters for so many years.Alex has for his battery mate at other former major league star, Earl “Oil'* Smith, formerly with the New York Giants. Smith has a reputation as a fighter and he still Is one of the greatest catchers in professional baseball. Earl, too, has not forgotten ihe tricks of the trade and his generalship on the field is of priceless value to the House of David team.Rules GoverningAll players use donkeys except ' the pitcher and catcher in the Held. Fielders must ride donkeys or hold onto the animals at all times. Held- ( crs may hold donkeys by bridle, tail, ear. leg, or any part of donkey while fielding or throwing ttie ball, but no player is allowed to field, or throw, or make auv assist unless riding the * donkey or bolding onto some part : of it.Tbe pitcher and catcher only are permitted to handle the batted ball between home plate and the pitcher's box.The batsman bats the ball the same as in regular baseball. Hi donkey is hitched not more than 10 feet from home plate. After hitting the ball he must ride or be in contact with his donkey in going to 1 first base. The runner may be assisted to first base by his mates.After reaching firlt;t base, the runner must ride or lead his donkey in advancing around the bases to score.
