Earl Young went to Orleans Sunday to see the ball game.Outclassed by the Sprudels—20 to 3.The largest crowd that has witnessed a game of ball in Orleans in many years saw the West Baden Sprudels play rings around Bryant’s aggregation at the ball park last Sunday. More than 500 fans, among them visitors from the neighboring towns and surrounding country, were there to cheer the boys on to victory. But it was not to be. The home boys had too many weak spots and the visitors soon located them. In the first session the game looked as if it might be interesting. The visitors got one man around by a foozle of a thrown ball by Roberts on first base. The derrick was applied to Roberts and Ben Taylor, an exleague player took his place, and sent a youngster from some town-ball league to play second. Our boys got two scores over the pan in their half, one of which was earned and the other due to errors. In the second the game was lost by rank playing by Pollard, the recruit, and Hacker in right field, both of whom seemed not to know how to get to the ball, and when they did get it, they didn’t know what to do with it. Selby pitched a fairly good game of ball and with the right kind of support would have held the score down. But they could not expect to beat them. Those “coons” play ball all the time and are next to all the wise points of the game. They played nice clean ball and their good-natured “joshing” amused the crowd. It was just another instance ad •of science against a hap-hazard pro-1 way of playing in which the ons, | scientific end of it was marked [jes, j the winner. It also shows that res, | even one weak man on the and j team can demoralize the whole , team. No matter how good ,ma-1 the battery work may be, they liest! cannot win without support, tely | especially against such heavy batters as the Sprudels. However, the fans saw an exhibition of how the game should be played and all were pleased with the show even if they did not win. Next Sunday they ice, j try Salem again and we hope 111. I to even up the score with them.
